ASBN Member | OPITO Last week our team assisted our global member company OPITO with their client delegation into South Africa with a business day out. After receiving a brief from OPITO and an understanding of who and what they wanted to engage with in Western Cape, we arranged a day in the Atlantis Special Economic Zone which specialises in energy (green) technology investment and manufacturing. ASEZ has recently been involved with a pilot project to encourage local high school students into STE(A)M careers. The project involved multiple stakeholders from higher education and local industry working together to introduce Arts into STEM learning and with a view to encourage more girls into career journeys. This aligns with OPITO’s My Energy Future campaign to ensure more youth are equipped with the skills to meet the future demands of a changing energy industry. Seamus Croll Richard Roberts thanks so much for the opportunity to bring business and education together, meaningfully for OPITO and take the delegates into the heart of where it begins for so many youngsters - in school. If you would like to organise a private delegation or client delegation into African markets, get in touch with us! #education #delegation #trade #relationships #international #stem #energy #thankyou #investment #youth

ASBN Member Sequana Investments | Agriculture Opportunity in BOTSWANA It was great to have our long standing member, Finnish born, Scotland raised businessman Mauri Ristola and his Scottish wife Sandra in our offices in South Africa. We can assure you, Mauri does indeed smile and is a fantastic member CEO in ASBN. THE OPPORTUNITY Mauri is the owner of the Sequana Investments, the holding company owner of the agri-tourism resort on the Okavango Delta, The Bellfrog Inn. Many will be aware that Botswana has imposed a ban on the import of 16 vegetables, including staples such as potatoes. The ban is likely to expand to 32 vegetables by July 2024. The issue with growing staples such as potatoes is the erratic weather, and conditions in which vegetables can successfully yield. Like many busy companies, Mauri pays ASBN an annual membership to ASBN to look after his networking and partnership opportunities. Mauri, who has been successfully growing vegetables (but not potatoes) from the Bellfrog Inn via hydroponics for the past 5 years, believes the best way to grow this staple in Botswana is via aeroponics. Mauri is looking for experts in Aeroponics, preferably in Africa but he is willing to travel to meet potential partners and equipment suppliers across the globe. If our followers have any expert and trusted leads in this niche growing method, please comment or contact claire@africascotland.network 🌍 Thank you! They say you're the sum of the 5-10 people you surround yourself with the most. Well, the same applies in business. When our founders Claire Alexander and Nicola Probyn decided to launch a brand new, contemporary, entreprenial, proactive, international business network to the world, from Africa, they knew this would be much bigger than themselves. They had to surround themselves with leading experts and international business acumen to ensure the foundations, strategy, and growth pathway was solid, as a rock. Africa Scotland Business Network is supported by eleven advisors and a Non Executive Director. (We're actually looking for one more in Africa). Our advisors to the board don't just sit on our website looking sharp. They are active in our business and play a key role in developing and advising the small but big hearted operational team from ASBN's office in Cape Town. Our advisors are also completely accessible for member companies. There's no strange hierarchies or authoritarian barriers in ASBN. We truly let the connections flow. We thought we'd bring those advisors to the fore, right here, where many wonderful people follow our sensational journey on Linkedin. First up is Gordon Mackay, MPRCA whom you'll all meet at our up coming event in Glasgow 6th June in partnership with University of Strathclyde. Gordon is South African. A former Member of Parliament, Gordon resides in London with his partner and works with APCO Worldwide as as well as advisor to the United Nations. He specialises in global sustainable policy in tech and advocates for fair access to opportunity in a complex world. Gordon has been a member of ASBN since the early days and was eager to join our newly formed UK Board of Advisors which we introduced in late 2022. You can read Gordon's profile here and meet the rest of our trusty advisors here: https://lnkd.in/eEihjjmk #surroundyourself #advisors #nonexecutivedirectors #team #solid #guidance #advisory #business #international

Photos just in from beautiful North Berwick in Scotland where our member company Gutter Science seamless aluminium gutters has been delivering services for 15 new homes in the prestigious Renaissance Golf Estate in Scotland. Here's some interesting facts about the science of these particular gutters thanks to owner Mark Boggon: The gutters are manufactured from a coil of aluminium which is fed through the roll forming machine in their “Gutter Lab” allowing the team to make the gutter to any length, using 0.9mm thick aluminium material as an industry standard. The coils are coated on both sides with the highest quality fade and flake proof paint which is baked onto the material in the manufacturing plant. Longer lasting and much more eco-friendly, this is proving to be a much sought after solution in the construction industry. Gutter Science, based in Edinburgh and Cape Town works with local authorities, construction companies and owners of residential and commercial properties offering 2 year workmanship guarantee and a 30 year product life expectancy on all aluminium gutter products. Congrats to Mark, Johan and their team in Edinburgh for this tremendous project 🏚 Web: www.gutterscience.co.za #gutters #rainsystems #construction #gutterscience
